As we all know girls lacrosse is exploding in popularity, particularly in New Jersey. Unfortunately due to the limited resources in coaches and fields, we have a finite number of roster positions available for the Club team. For the past several seasons, more girls would like to play on the Club team than we are able to accommodate.
Given that we do not have enough spots to accommodate every girl who would like to be on the team, it is our goal to create a fair and open process by which the teams are selected. With the encouragement of the Recreation Department Directors of Maplewood and South Orange, the MGLC has been going with a try-out system for past few years. We are hoping to have two teams at each level, allowing for 28 girls for Grades 3/4 and 44 girls at both Grades 5/6 and Grades 7/8.
To make the process as fair as possible, we have outside professional evaluators coming in to assess players for placement on our teams for the spring. For the tryout process, these coaches will evaluate each athlete's stick skills, gameplay and athleticism for team placement. The team selections will be based on the impartial evaluation of these coaches and are final. No priority will be given to past team members. However, the daughters of coaches who have completed the comprehensive Level 1 Certification Program are eligible for a roster spot on the team.
Try-outs will be on Friday, October 27, 2017 (Friday, November 3, 2017 rain-date). Registration opens on September 23 and closes October 26.
